Check out a video on the Social Media Revolution.
Interesting statistics cited by the video:
- Social Media has overtaken pornography as the #1 activity on the Web
- 1 out of 8 couples married in the U.S. met via social media
- If Facebook were a country, it would be the 3rd largest
- The fastest growing segment on Facebook is 55-65 year-old females
- Some universities have stopped distributing e-mail accounts, instead they are distributing eReaders, iPads, Tablets
- What happens in Vegas…(what do you think?)
The claim that social media might be the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution seems a bit dramatic. Plus, I’m very curious about the university statistics… that seems hard to believe, unless they are referring to universities outsourcing to Google for GMail. And Vegas… it seems now that passive voyeurism and exhibitionism has become easier with technology. That and different generations have different privacy expectations and concerns.
(Coincidentally, embedding the video above is not allowed… perhaps it’s a statement that blogs are out and links in social media are in?)
